Burnett Prayer Ministry

Prayer is bringing life, hope, love, compassion, understanding, grace and mercy to peoples’ lives.  All of these come only from Jesus alone.  When we pray with people we are acting as the go-between, the middle man, between that person and God.  It’s sort of like taking the person’s hand and putting it into the hand of God so they can experience what He has for them.

At Burnett we believe that prayer is a vital ministry of the church towards all people.  We desire to encourage one another, support one another, and to come alongside one another, not just to meet physical and emotional needs, but also to pray for the needs of others and the many ministries of this church.

What is prayer?
Is there a certain way I should pray, certain words I should use, how do I get it right?  There's no "right" way to pray … the key is to remember that it is more important to concentrate on the privilege of prayer rather than on the process.
Pray when you don't feel like it… sometimes we feel so hurt we don’t want to pray. God says: "Let me help”.
Give the crisis to God; pray even when you feel powerless… the Lord never promised us an easy road, but He did promise always to be with us on that road.
Trust God's sovereignty as you pray… our prayers can't change God's mind, but they do show our submission to the Master.  He loves us and wants us to keep talking to Him.
Prayer begins with us, with whoever we are, with whatever we can give. Talking to God, no matter how simple, can lead to a relationship far beyond what you may have ever thought possible.  God wants us to come to Him with life’s big crises and with our joy, with our little anxieties and with our praise.

Opportunities to be involved in prayer:
Prayer team that receives phone calls and / or email messages through the prayer chain as needs are made known to us.  The team realizes that many of these requests for prayer through the ‘Prayer Chain’ have been shared in confidence, some are of a private nature and we desire to honor this confidence.
Prayer Request cards are available at the info rack in the lobby in which prayer requests can be recorded that everyone can pray for.  Most everyone has events, people or issues we would like others to pray for and these requests involve as many people as possible praying for God’s will in any circumstance.
The Small Groups and Student Ministry Small Groups all have prayer times as part of their weekly meetings.
Reach out to your friends and family by telling them that Burnett Fellowship wants to pray for them … what are their requests?  Communicate the requests as concisely as possible to Helen Haughton.

An exciting part of your prayer life can be praying for others.  I would like to encourage you to be a part of our prayer team. If you would like more information on this important aspect of life at Burnett, I would love to talk with you … this may be the next step in your understanding of prayer that you want to take!
